Introduction

The prevalence of acute sinusitis (AS) remains a major public health issue in Asia and the Caribbean. The incidence of acute sinusitis has been estimated to increase from approximately 0.5 cases per 100,000 population in Thailand to 1 in 200,000 in the United States in the year 2007. The disease, characterized by chronic inflammation, can be fatal. This presents an increasing threat to the overall health of public and healthcare systems in the country.

The treatment of acute sinusitis is largely focused on the intravenous (IV) administration of Ciprofloxacin. The drug, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of chronic sinusitis (CPS), is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluoroquinolone class that has been demonstrated to be effective in ameliorating symptoms and improving quality of life. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that kills both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, topoisomerase IV, and topoisomerase IV topoisomerase II.

The treatment of acute sinusitis has a number of advantages, including ease of administration, potential for bacterial resistance, and an absence of systemic or gastrointestinal side effects. As a result, the use of Ciprofloxacin has been rapidly expanding in recent years, as the number of patients diagnosed with the disease has increased in the United States, the World Health Organization (WHO) has noted, and the global prevalence of acute sinusitis has also increased. As a result, Ciprofloxacin has become a preferred option for the treatment of acute sinusitis. The emergence of antibiotic resistance, which can lead to the emergence of multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains, has contributed to the increasing concern about the development of antibiotic resistance and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In this study, we compared the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of Ciprofloxacin and its generic counterpart, Ciprofloxacin-inet

Methods

Study Design

This retrospective study was a single center, prospective, non-randomized control trial. Patients who were diagnosed with acute sinusitis in the outpatient department of our Hospital between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2017, in our Center of Research and Technology. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of our Center (Ethics Committee number: 1-8-2019-0005-001). The study was registered with the Clinical Trial Registry, ClinicalTrials.gov, and was conducted in accordance with the Clinical and Laboratory Monitoringrush Act of the European Union (EEC/2018/21-0035). The study was conducted with the consent of the Institutional Review Board of our Center and was conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki and Good Clinical Practice. The Ethics Committee of our Center (Ethics Committee number: 1-8-2019-0005-001) conducted the study before the commencement of the study and has taken all necessary precautions to ensure compliance with all necessary requirements for the research. The patients were included in the study if they were male or female and they were of a WHO grade III-IV (WHO grade III) with a mean age of 63 years. The patients were randomly selected from the medical records and the data were collected from the patients’ records. The study protocol for this study was approved by the Ethical Committee of our Center. The study was performed according to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.

Study Population

The study population was randomly selected from the medical records of the patients enrolled in our Center during the period January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2017, in our Center of Research and Technology. The patients were included if they were male or female and they were of a WHO grade III with a mean age of 63 years. The patients were diagnosed with acute sinusitis in the outpatient department of our Hospital between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2017, in our Center of Research and Technology.

Laboratory Procedures

All the laboratory procedures were performed in accordance with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.

Blood and CSF Collection and Treatment

The blood and CSF samples were collected in a vein under fasting conditions, according to the patient’s instructions. The blood was centrifuged at 4000 ×gfor 5 min at 4°C, and the CSF was separated for analysis. The blood was collected in a vein and then stored at −70°C until further analysis.
